pfrederi 18,711 #1 Posted October 1, 2011 The Electro 12 I am working on must have spent alot of time outdoors. Removing the steering wheel has been a PROJECT. The Electro steering column uses a roll pin and a woodruff key (sort of like a belt and suspenders). Removed the wheel, column, and dash then used my roll pin punch to get the pin out, then had to drill out the set screw in the shaft collar (frozen and stripped!!) and then drove the steering wheel down the shaft to clear the woodruff key. Never could get the woodruff Key out of the shaft. Chisels just tore off the exposed parts. Finally got mad and filed the remains flush with the shaft. Today I took my Dremel with a cutoff wheel and made a longitudinal cut in the middle of the key. I went about as deep as i thought the key would go, then using a sharp chisel I hit the seam between the key and shaft. (once on each side). The key collapsed into the middle and came out with a pair of pliers. Hope this helps someone.
