Projekt B-60 0 #1 Posted September 27, 2011 I have a freshly rebuilt K161 for my B-60. It has a pull starter and I serviced it exactly as written in the Kohler service manual. When I pull the engine over slowly, the (3) pawls engage the grass-screen starter cup, but the pawls skip. It catches and the motor starts to turn over, but with any real force, it skips. For the life of me, I can not understand why the pawls are not fully engaging the starter cup teeth. Any ideas? Thanks!
TT-(Moderator) 1,158 #2 Posted September 27, 2011 If the cup teeth are in good condition, make sure all of the washers are installed and in the correct order on the center screw. Hope this doesn't get too confusing.......... The brake and pawl retainer must also be assembled without any lubrication. The brake has to be loose enough to rotate slightly, but tight enough to hold the pawl retainer so the pawls fully engage the cup teeth and stay engaged. If the center screw doesn't stay where you set it so the starter works correctly, use a drop of non-permanent thread locker. (Loctite blue)
