Kohler K-241S

Recommended Posts

ruggets@mts.net

I have a Kohler K-241S on my 1976 Wheel Horse B-100 with attached mower and tiller.

I had it running and then shut it down to wash it. Used my pressure washer to clean it and now it wont start.

Is it possible the ignition parts got wet and need to dry out.

How long will it take to dry out.

This is the first time I have had a problem with the motor, never been touched since I owned it.

Please e-mail me at

yeah , your ignition probably got wet. overnight should do it , or you could take off the points cover to speed the drying

It's also possible you knocked some of the wiring loose.

What happens when you try to start it?

EDIT: I forgot -- :thumbs2:

:thumbs2: Hope you didn't hit the engine with cold water while it was hot. :banghead: That can do some serious damage. However, I am inclined to agree with "305". Pull the cover off the points and dry them with a hair dryer. Be sure the HV wire from the coil to the plug is dry. Pull the wire out of the top of the coil and dry the coil as well. That should do it.

Bob,

I've heard this warning forever, and it makes a lot of sense, but I have to confess I don't really know exactly what kind of damage can be caused.

Can you elaborate -- cracked block or head, that sort of thing?

Thanks!

And ruggets, I would check the points cover and gasket carefully while you're at it, replace them if necessary, it might help avoid the problem in the future. Likewise the coil wire that Bob mentioned, make sure it's not cracked or damaged somehow.

Ed, The sudden change of tempature can cuase the head to warp or crack. It may also cuase the cylander walls or block to crack. Hope this answers you question!

All of the above.

When I was a teenager, I thought I would make some "brownie points" with my dad by washing the lawn mower after cutting the grass. While the engine was still hot, I hit it with cold water from the garden hose. I heard a "ping" noise which ended up being the head cracking from rapid cooling.
