mailman 1 #1 Posted June 17, 2008 I can NOT get this blasted thing off. I have tried TT's method and that didn't work. I have tried the harmonic balancer method and that wont work. I have tried the wheel puller method and it won't budge! What the heck will take this off?
CasualObserver 3,406 #2 Posted June 17, 2008 Seriously though... do you have any sort of wedge you can drive through? Hardwood or composite of some sort? Long and skinny... so it works out gradually... two wedges on either side and a dead blow hammer. Also try heating the pulley (carefully) and give a few quick hammer taps on the flat surfaces marked on your pulley here.... I know ideally you are trying to pull it off.. but if you can just break the tension holding it, it should come off fairly easily. Attached Image
mailman 1 #3 Posted June 17, 2008 OK! I cranked the son of a B!t@# and she broke loose. Whew! Now I have to somehow pull the old seal out right? Call me a fool, but it doesn't even look like there is one in there. What the heck am I suppose to pick out of there? Can ya tell I'm a newbie!
mailman 1 #4 Posted June 17, 2008 Hey guys? I would like to replace this pulley since it was cracked by former owner in trying to get it off. What should I look for on ebay in terms of years or sizes for my shaft. This is coming off an eight horse Kohler. Thanks.
TT-(Moderator) 1,129 #5 Posted June 17, 2008 You'll need a 4" O.D. pulley with a 1" bore, Eric. Look for one for a 1972-ish Commando 800, 1973 8hp 4 speed, (horizontal shaft) all B-80's, or 308-8's. The "big block" tractors have a 1 1/8" crankshaft.
Kelly 1,028 #7 Posted June 18, 2008 Glad to hear it came off, I was going to tell you to heat it but too late, and someone else already said that.
mailman 1 #8 Posted June 18, 2008 Anybody have a spare sitting around collecting dust?
TT-(Moderator) 1,129 #10 Posted July 6, 2008 "Duramaxdavid" must have gotten the pulley off of his 8hp engine, but you'll have to check with him on where it got to. I do know that he isn't going to use the K-181 now.
BairleaFarm 340 #11 Posted July 6, 2008 Probably not. I broke mine when I pulled it off.
