520h hydraulic problem

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I have a 1988 520h. It seems to have issues with lifting attachments when the weather starts to get cooler out. It's started it already. When I pull the lever it does nothing. If I drive around a while/let things warm up it seems to do fine after that. This becomes a pain when I have the big 2 stage blower attached. I've changed filters and put in the recommended fluid and amount already and seemed to help for a little while but it's just back to the same old thing now. Is there a valve or something that might have some gunk in it? If so where is it and can it be accesses fairly easy? I'm totally new to hydraulics. Love working on my dads 310-8 b/c it's so easy lol.

The hydro's require a warm up time. The hydraulics will be sluggish before they warm up in the winter. In my experience this is true with just about every tractor with hydraulics even very large farm tractors. It is a good idea to let these machines warm up before deciding to zoom off with them, especially in the winter. Just because your engine seems as if it is running fine doesn't mean that you shouldn't give it a couple more minutes. Also when was the last time you changed your hydro oil? because that will do it also. Different brands of oil run better in cold weather. This has been discussed before on this site. Some members use heat lamps. Some use block heaters, some just let it warm up.

Please just let it warm up. All hydros are like this. Some take longer than others. These are traits. Our employers Kabota Utility 4 wheeler takes 10 minutes to warm the hydrolics before it will move in the winter. Longer for the front plow attachment.
