wheelhorsenut69 0 #1 Posted September 17, 2011 My cousin bought a brand new short block 10 hp kohler but here is the problem a 12 hp fly wheel will not slide on far enough i told him i think the crank shaft is out of a john deere or something i dont now I just picked up a 12 jd crank and am going to let him try it out and see what happens???? i hate guessing but the engine is brand new anyone have a answer why the taper for the wheelhorse flywheel is smaller than the taper on the crank in this 10 hp????? it is a shame that motor is all painted and ready to go back in but need a fly wheel i am crossing all my fingers and hoping a john deere fly wheel works on this engine crank??? or im going to tell him to part it out and move on........... :banghead:

They all have the same taper in the center, and most of them have two or four tapped holes for accessories, and for using an automotive harmonic balancer/vibration damper puller tool to remove the flywheel from the crankshaft. Is it possible he is trying to put an 8 HP fly wheel on that crank shaft Chas
wheelhorsenut69 0 #4 Posted September 19, 2011 he tried using a 12 horse fly wheel off his spare wheel horse engine but it did the same thing just a 1/4 inch shy of going on far enough so that the shroud and screen can go on as well it sticks out that little bit to far and makes it not work :thumbs2:
Kelly 1,033 #5 Posted September 19, 2011 Make sure the key is in properly, if it walks up the crank as you install the flywheel it will not go on all the way, and yes all 10 to 16hp interchange, remember the gen, and gear drive flywheels use diff, blower housings.
