marvairplanes 34 #1 Posted September 14, 2011 Got the 1988 520H out of the barn for the first time since early June. Started right up...ran nice.. for about 5 minutes. Then started to lose power and "stall". When I quickly disengaged the mower deck it recovered after a few seconds. ??? Five minutes later...same thing...What the heck ??? If I disengaged the mower, it would sputter and stumble, and then recover. Did this 3-4 times... Then...WOW...all of a sudden the engine takes off "racing" and is running at least twice as fast as normal. I take down the throttle as fast as I can...fire flies out the exhaust, it back fires (BANG !!!!), and then it's running back to normal !!!! My first thought was a dirty carb, but why the "racing engine" and the back firing? Next step...drove it into the shop and turned off the key. Any ideas?
