oltrucks39 0 #1 Posted September 2, 2011 Hey guys! Ive got a 753 that I use to pull a trailer aroung the garden and to haul firewood with. The trouble I am having is the transmission doesnt want to shift without grinding when the brake pedal is pushed in. I replaced the belt with the correct one from my toro dealer, and have tried adjusting the brake lever nut to no avail. Any ideas? :thumbs2:
CasualObserver 3,406 #2 Posted September 2, 2011 Did you put the belt cover back on? The cover has guides that force slack in the belt to release from the engine pulley when you press the clutch pedal. Without a belt cover, you will grind gears.
MaineDad 85 #3 Posted September 2, 2011 Like Jason asked or are you sure it's the right belt?
stevasaurus 22,273 #4 Posted September 2, 2011 The other problem could be the new belt...they are a little sticky. Take some mineral spirits and wipe down the grooves in the pulleys...the belt needs to slip on the pulleys when you push in the clutch. While you are there, check the pulleys...especially the idler pulley for wear and that they are OK. :thumbs2:
buckrancher 2,678 #5 Posted September 2, 2011 the drive belt must stop turning when you step on the clutch brake pedal if it does'nt you will grind the gears Brian
Coadster32 793 #6 Posted September 3, 2011 I agree with the others. Most likely not a tranny problem.
oltrucks39 0 #7 Posted September 4, 2011 Well, the belt guard being on is the winner. Thanks, i guess it was a duh moment on my part.
