Electro12WH 50 #1 Posted August 27, 2011 I set the points on my Kohler K181 at .020 and it runs just okay. It could start better. So, I decided to set the points with a multi meter, hooking the positive to the point wire which is disconnected from the coil and the negative to ground. Then I turned the flywheel until the S mark lined up with the index mark. After that I adjusted the points until the meter showed them just closing. So far, so good. Now I turned the flywheel until the points were all the way open and measured them with thickness guage to see how far open they were set. .034" What the...!!! __________________ Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rmaynard 16,333 #2 Posted August 27, 2011 I think you are doing just opposite of what you should. With your meter set to continuity or the ohms mode, attach the meter with one lead to ground and the other to the points connection. If you don't have continuity, rotate the engine in it's normal rotation until you do. Then continue to rotate until the points just OPEN. At this point you should see the S mark.
