horse junkie 18 #1 Posted August 21, 2011 So I want to convert my 14hp kohler over to points. Are all the pushrods for the points the same size and is that just a allen screw in the hole, I noticed the holes are tapped for the points and cover. One more question would you have to put a stator on the flywheel for charging. :thumbs2:
pfrederi 18,702 #2 Posted August 22, 2011 It isn't an allen screw it is a freeze plug. You have to pick/pry it out. You didn't say which model but if you currently have electric start/lights then your stator will continue to work. Breakerless ignitions had special stators a couple of the "legs" were just for the ignition system, the rest made electricity for the charging system/lights. You can use a breaker less stator in a points system but you cannot use a points stator in a breakerless system.
horse junkie 18 #3 Posted August 22, 2011 Thanks for your help the engine is off a 69 gt14 and the coil is bad, so I figured I could change it over cheaper than buying the coil I already have most of the parts :thumbs2:
Don1977 605 #4 Posted August 23, 2011 The stator just recharges the battery. The point system runs off of the battery.
