Tecumseh H60 help question!

Hello,

I am trying to work fast on an mid 60s tecumseh H60 engine to put in my sons wheel horse before a show in two weeks. I do not have time or money for a rebuild, and I am only looking to keep this running for my son to putt around a few tractor shows with, no work or mowing intended.

I did not open the crank case, only planned on replacing crank shaft seals due to age. This engine has bushings, not ball bearings, at each end of the crank. The bushing at the flywheel side has just a couple thousandths lateral play between the bushing and crank, so I popped in a new seal and feel good about that side.

However, the pto side has about 0.006" or 0.007" lateral play in that bushing. Before I put a new seal on this side, I am debating whether to put a new bushing in as a band-aid fix, just to buy some time. The old seal on this side did not appear to be leaking, I just planned on replacing it since I already had a new seal. I did not see the engine run, but was told it did years ago.(didn't they all!!!)

~So, is a new bushing necessary for a year or two of light duty joy rides and parades??

~If I remove the cover on the PTO side, is it a simple matter of pressing a new bushing in the crank case cover, and reinstalling the cover, or do I have a lot of governor parts to fuss with, or anything else time consuming?....

~Does anyone know the part number for the bushing? hopefully they are still available??

Again, I know the best route is to rebuild the whole engine...but it is not something I can not afford to do right now. Any help would be appreciated!

I wouldn't mess with the bushing unless the seal won't hold.

The bushing is p/n 31546 and the cover gasket is p/n 30684 (you'll also need another seal ~ #28487)

My book is out in the shop so I can't tell you if the bushing is "press & go" or if it has to be reamed to size after installation. (I have never replaced one.)

if it's not broke, don't fix it

but if you do take it apart and you need that gasket # 30684 , i have a bunch of extra ones ( actually 10) and would be happy to send you one

Thanks for bring up the point about bushing size Terry...for my future reference, does anyone know if these bushings are "press and go", or do they need to be sized after installation?
