njdpo 1 #1 Posted August 7, 2011 Hi all, A little while ago I replaced the outer bearing on my PTO on a k181s / commando 800. I finally got myself a can of Valspar IH red paint (from TSC) and decided I'd pretty up the PTO pulley a bit. After pulling the PTO pulley off the motor for painting - I see there is some grease seeping past the black seal and making its way out towards the clutch material. I'm not concerned about the grease getting on the clutch material as much as I am thinking that the grease should be sealed inside the pulley so that the inner bearing doesn't dry out - and burn up. Should I expect to see a bit of seepage or does this black seal need to be replaced? I will post a photo tomorrow (charging the camera battery) Thanks in advance - Dave
rmaynard 14,951 #2 Posted August 8, 2011 Under normal service, there should be no grease leaking out. I would replace the seal. Some reasons for leakage - too much grease packed into the PTO; PTO running hot and causing the grease to liquify; damaged or worn seal.
