Butch 194 #1 Posted August 5, 2011 My C85 just started killing the engine when engaging the mower PTO. There must be a switch somewhere causing this. Where would it be and what does it look like. Thanks

Butch 194 #3 Posted August 5, 2011 Seat switch.... Seat Switch? Do they go bad or does a wire come off? Can the switches still be bought?
C-Series14 15 #4 Posted August 5, 2011 Yea, they go bad and yes, they do come off. Try bypassing the switch and see if it works. Connect the two wires together. As far as if they are still available, not sure. All of mine are still working, never had a problem....Might try looking up the parts diagram and see if they are. Butch 194 #6 Posted August 5, 2011 What's the seat switch do. My tractor still runs whether I'm in the seat or not.
C-Series14 15 #7 Posted August 5, 2011 It kills the PTO if you are mowing and get off the tractor, hence not allowing you to reach under or mess with the mower deck. With the PTO disengaged, you can get on and off the tractor without the engine stopping. Safety first!
tunahead72 2,543 #8 Posted August 6, 2011 Butch, The seat switch on my 310-8 went bad a while ago, I removed it and currently have it bypassed, but I don't recommend it. I can actually get off my tractor while the engine's running, with the mower engaged! Stupid dangerous, and I plan to replace it next chance I get. They are still available, and they're not real expensive -- Toro has mine for about $14 (part no. 106268, may be the same as yours), you can probably get it cheaper. Check your setup carefully against the parts diagram, make sure you've got all the spacers and nuts you need to install it right.
