MaineDad 87 #1 Posted August 5, 2011 Has anyone else noticed that their valve seat width is different from one side to the other? On my K301 intake, the valve seat width is smaller nearer the exhaust valve. The machine shop pointed that out to me this morning before he did the cutting. The exhaust valve seat width is uniform all the way around. Anyone else notice that?
Anglo Traction 761 #2 Posted August 5, 2011 Yes Micah, One of the 3 K301s I've worked had the Intake Valve Seat slightly 'Off Centre'. The Valve Insert Outer/Inner faces only has to be ground 'Off Centre' by a few Thou' when manufactured to produce an eccentric Seat Face when it is initially Cut. The guy was right to point it out to you , assuming you hadn't noticed it before because it will be more obvious after it was re-cut. I presume he also said that it's not an issue and won't affect the engine, because he would be right!. I'm off to get mine inspected for a Re-Bore and Crank Re-Grind next week. My Valve Seats are good though!. Regards
