WheelHorse58 1 #1 Posted August 4, 2011 Hello you may remember me from before I have a 1965 Wheel Horse 1075. I'm going to change the oil in the transmission and wondering what you guys would recommend to use in it. Also it has a filter on it which I am going to have to replace and I'm going to have to cross some numbers around. So if you have any ideas on what to use for oil or filter please reply . boovuc 1,090 #2 Posted August 4, 2011 Originally, that transmission was a WH 5052/5054 which called for the old Type A automatic transmission fluid. This is Dextron/GM transmission fluid. PLEASE NOTE: there is a good chance that your tranny was converted to run plain old 10w-30 motor oil. Most people did this but not all. You will need to identify what oil is in your tranny now. Automatic transmission fluid or motor oil. The filter to use is your choice. The Toro transmission filter is Toro# 79-5270. This has a bypass valve in it. If it plugs up, it allows the filter to be by-passed. (Why you would want to bypass the filter if it's plugged is beyond me). I use the NAPA 1410. No bypass valve period. If it plugs up for some reason, you'll loss power. (And it's protecting the tranny). BooVuc Mill Hall, PA
can whlvr 994 #3 Posted August 4, 2011 the reason the filter bypasses is if it were to plug no fluid would go to the pump and burn it out,it needs the fluid to lubricate it
