bradpj53 0 #1 Posted July 31, 2011 I have a 1984 GT-1800 that ran when I brought it home. Problem was, it has this funky 90 deg oil drain that was loose and leaky. So I did a partial dis-assembly to be able to clean it up and tighten it up, which is now fine. Then it sat for quite a while as I got busy with other things. When I got around to finishing the job, it wouldn't start. It has the Briggs twin 694cc. I've put in a new battery. Engine cranks and sparks but doesn't fire. I suspect a fuel pump problem; I have fuel flowing to the (new) filter. Suggestions? Brad
kadetklapp 1 #2 Posted August 1, 2011 I have the same issue. Good luck with it. So far I've not gotten any suggestions other than to completely rewire the tractor. I do have fuel into the carb however.
Save Old Iron 1,571 #3 Posted August 1, 2011 One of the very nice features of B&S magneto engines is if you supply them fuel properly, don't ground the magneto kill wire and get the flywheel spinning, they will start and run until you ground the mag kill wire or run out of fuel. A good place to start is make sure the magneto kill wire is not grounded thru the ignition switch or anywhere along its travel up to the magneto itself. To be certain, remove the kill wire from the mag coil kill terminal, check the gap between the flywheel and the mag, check the spark plug gap, establish a good ground between the spark plug and the engine block and start cranking. No spark is then either a bad magneto, bad plug or possible (but very rare) damage to the magnet(s) on the flywheel and as always NEVER APPLY 12 VOLTS TO THE KILL TERMINAL OF THE MAGNETO - IT WILL BURN UP ALMOST INSTANTLY. One you let the magic smoke out of the mag coil, it will not work again.
