kthack657 328 #7 Posted August 1, 2011 All I have to say is WOW what was the guy thinking? maybe the engine he wanted wouldnt fit under the hood, regardless, I am at a loss for words :woohoo:

If you notice the engine is in backwards, but the transmission has not been changed. There has to be a jack shaft to get the drive belt back to the right side transmission pulley that can not be seen in the picture. It has the gearing going the same direction as the seat is facing. kadetklapp 1 #10 Posted August 1, 2011 Reminds me of a heavy duty Massey Furgeson fork lift I've seen where the tractor was a "reverse" setup, basically a normal tractor only the seat and steering wheel were mounted opposite and the transmission was setup differently. But tranny is right way around-ish and therefore there must be a pretty complex belt system also. ...or have the used the brake drum as a pulley instead to reduce the gearing further? I like how they managed to recycle the rear chassis section as a steering column too!
wheelhorsec85 5 #12 Posted August 1, 2011 there was a garden tractor in the 60s that was made like this from the factory i cant remember the name of it but i have seen a couple of pics of them and i still cant remember what the reason for why they did it either . ill have to check on it again :woohoo:
can whlvr 994 #13 Posted August 2, 2011 i beleive the tractor you may be thinking of was for moving airplanes around, the person sat on the hood and guided the plane in while they were lookijg towards the rear of the tractor
rockbuilt 7 #14 Posted August 2, 2011 not sure what it is if I had to guess I would say it is the beginning of a fork lift or FEL but I still think I hold the record for the ugliest tractor

There has to be a jack shaft to get the drive belt back to the right side transmission pulley that can not be seen in the picture. It has the gearing going the same direction as the seat is facing. The jackshaft is in the second picture, left side of the plywood floorboard. The belt goes through the notch. It appers to have had a dump box on it. The pipe above the front - rear - larger tires looks to be part of the hinge. The handle almost 90 degrees to the steering pillar looks to be the release/catch for the box. the brake handle looking thing on the steering pillar look like the throttle. but thats just a guess.
