shorts 182 #2 Posted July 30, 2011 exhaust is part science and part voodoo, use a black pipe 45 elbow sideways out of the engine and then go with a same size exhaust elbow 90 to the stack, the ideal setup is that the primary pipe should be 1 or 2 times the volume of the cylinder before you go to a larger diameter pipe/chamber for the stack, run it high enough that the exhaust doesn't end up in your face. you should be able to bend tubing without kinking it by filling it with sand and caping the ends and using a bender for rigid conduit. I have 2 tractors with 1 1/2" exhaust pipe . Both are 12 hp kohler ( raider 12 , C-121) I came out 8 1/2" then 90 deg. bend . Pipe was 30" long before bent . At the end that goes on nipple at engine i took a hacksaw cut down 3/4 to 1" crossways making 4 slits. used 1 1/2" muffler clamp to hold on . Has been ok , put rain cap on also. can whlvr 994 #4 Posted July 30, 2011 i got a cheap 414 with 14 magnum, the muffler was completly rotted,i got a muffler at tsc that had a dent for 10 bucks, cut off the excess to use off the engine, had a 90 elbow thatis from an old water line, the muffler fit right into it nice and snug, welded it up,put a rain cap and it runs great,i think it has as much power as my other 414 that has very low hours,it may not be as good flow as a nice swept elbow but it seems to work reat, and less than 15 bucks for a good lookin setup :woohoo:
