Pollack Pete 2,273 #1 Posted July 29, 2011 Last Sunday, the squaw and I took a little road trip to Danbury,CT.to pick up this C-101 8 speed from RS member Ken B. What a sweet running tractor.Pulled the deck off, pressure washed it,sharpened the blades and coated the underside with black POR-15.Gonna do an engine oil change and tranny oil change before I put it to work.Great guy that Ken B.We shot the breeze for over an hour.Nice to talk to another Ford fan, even though he has a couple of those brand X bowties. Thanks again Ken. Ive been mowing with a really beat looking C-101 with a 42 in.RD deck. With sharp blades,it does a pretty good job. That is mowing my lawn about every 2 weeks.Semi hay field length grass. This one from Ken B. has a 42 RD also.36 would probably cut a little better in the real high grass though. mavfreak 11 #4 Posted July 29, 2011 Thanks Pete. I should just go get this but I only want it if I can use it I really want a 12hp but if the 10 can work then I should. My yard is very flat 1.6 acers, and I Have been mowing with a C161 twin and it doesn't even know its truning a deck but It gets so thiristy.

MalMac 1,332 #6 Posted July 29, 2011 I not too long ago acquired a C101, I now mow 2.5 acres with it. I was using one of 520H's. With the price of gas and the thirst of the 520 I parked it and started using the 101. I put a 42in on it and hit handles it just fine. Takes me longer but using only half the gas. Plus the C101 does not have half the headaches the 520H can bring up. The 520's are nice but just not down to earth like the C's. This is just my opinion of course. But I like the C's the best, they are indisputably the bread and butter of the Wheel Horses. There again just my opinion.
can whlvr 994 #7 Posted July 29, 2011 nice 101 pete,it looks to be in nice shape,i have one, well used too, gave it to my wife after a complete restore including engine rebuild, they are very nice to drive and with the cradle they are very smooth,it can handle a 42 deck but it can be too much at times,at least with my lawn,i had a 37rd but sold it,so it has a 42 on it now but its just for show as shes pretty much a show queen now
