kadetklapp 1 #1 Posted July 27, 2011 Dare I ask- would it be sacrilege to install a different gauge on my WorkHorse GT 1800 in place of the ampmeter? I ask because it occurs to me that a more useful gauge would be, say, a tachometer, temp gauge, etc. Anyone done this?
Sparky-(Admin) 23,256 #2 Posted July 27, 2011 The tach and temp gages dont seem as important as an hour meter. Its easier to read an hour meter than try to keep track in your head how many hours since the last fluid change. I also think that on some tractors the amp meter is an important part of the circuit. SousaKerry 503 #3 Posted July 27, 2011 I put a oil pressure gauge in my C-175 looks like it has always been there
kadetklapp 1 #4 Posted July 27, 2011 Maybe I could use a hole saw and install another gauge? I agree an hourmeter would be nice to have.
Duff 206 #5 Posted July 27, 2011 Hi, Aaron, and ! My humble advice would be to put whatever gauge(s) you are comfortable with on your tractor. It's your machine! Admittedly if it was one of the classic round hoods I'd probably start ducking the flying tomatoes even suggesting this to you, but on the newer and still more common machines, I don't see any reason not to install them. In the 300-400-500 series machines, the dash plates are very available so you could always go back to original spec on these. It looks like the GT-1800 shares the same basic hood and dash tower design. Duff :woohoo:
kadetklapp 1 #6 Posted July 27, 2011 Thanks Duff. I am a purist in regards to old Chevrolet squad cars so I understand how some are offended when they see heavily modified rare birds. I guess I don't need any other gauges, but I like the instrumentation that was available on these. I may get another dash panel and play around with it... The Toolman 22 #7 Posted July 28, 2011 Took the amp gauge out (that wasn't working) an put a voltmeter back in its place
Don1977 605 #8 Posted July 28, 2011 I modified my C-120 for an oil pressure gauge when I installed The Brigg V-twin. There is an Hour Meter installed on the dash.
Guest #9 Posted July 28, 2011 Don, What's the cool toggle for next to the oil pressure gauge? Is there another key switch just above that as well? What do they do?
Don1977 605 #10 Posted July 29, 2011 The switch was for some extra lights that have been removed. That other above is where I once had a push button switch that has been removed.
