Non OEM Bearings

Hi all,

I have gotten so much good advice from this forum. Unfortunately I need some more. I have an older mower deck - it is model 5-1000 - a 42" side discharge deck. It is in pretty good shape given its age. One small crack that needs to be welded and some surface rust. I tore it apart and found that it needs a new bearing in the spindle. I got the part number from toro. It is part # 101480. When I checked out the price they were selling for $27.00 a piece. This seemed really steep to me. One is bad but the other two look okay. I will likely replace all three if I can find them for less money. Now to the question:

Does anyone know of a non-OEM who makes bearing that would fit? Is there a conversion chart for the toro part number to the non OEM bearings? Or should I suck it up and buy the OEM part?

Thanks for the advice. I had a fun time pulling this apart over the weekend.

It's a 6203 bearing 40MM OD with a 3/4" ID . You should be able to find them on line at a reasonable price. I had a few bearing places booked marked, but my computer crashed and I lose them.

take the 6203 number to almost any bearing house such as motion industries, applied industrial, fastenal, grainger, hell even Napa can get em cheaper. Chances are there is one of these places in a town near you, THen ya ain't got to pay shipping :woohoo:

HELLO THERE, IT IS A COMMON BEARING FOR GENERAL MOTORS ALTERNATORS AND GENERATORS FROM 1955-1985 CARS. SOME BEARINGS ARE SEALED ON BOTH SIDES JUST REMOVE ONE SIDE. THE SEALED SIDE IS ALWAYS ON THE OUTSIDE. GOOD LUCK

Here is the bearing in the link Butch posted. It's a 6203-2RS-12. They want $20 you should be able to find them for around $7 or $8.

A regular 6203 bearing is 17 MM ID like a Chevy alternator bearing they fit the later model spindles.

i got 18 bearings for 20 bucks at my local rental shop,he said they wre on the shelf for at least 20 years so he said if i buy a round of coffees for the shop they are mine,they were the double sided like bowtie said,just pull the plastic cover off one side

I bought aftermarket bearings ( the same ones) for .98 ea.

I seem them on line for less that $3.00 ea.

If they Don't last, I can change them out in a couple hours.

Buy the cheap ones...
