Partzman 0 #1 Posted July 24, 2011 I've jumped in here for some general advice-and will apologize in advance for my ignorance. I've just bought a Charger 12 which won't be home for another week and the anticipation is killing me. I know ONLY: low-time engine, always garaged by the original owners family. 40? deck, original "leaking tires". Tractor is complete and was runningwhen parked, but seems to have some current starting issues. I've been wanting-not a collector-a tough garden tractor that can work around my place and if it also mows-great. I think this is it. After cruising the net, it seems everyone NE of the Mississippi has a WH of some kind. My question is that were the Chargers less popular or perhaps problematic, because it seems very few comments can be found about them? I still do not know the year model, but the hood decal is a 2-color red/purple horizontal bar with white Wheel Horse lettering, and perhaps the main drive is electric. kthack657 328 #3 Posted July 24, 2011 Hi first second, I love my charger 12. it was my first tractor with the generator start. it has a great motor and plenty of pep for working around the house, although mine is currently a play toy, it mowed, plowed and did snow throwing by the original owner. it is a tough machine and should do you proud. The reason you see more C's is that they were made a lot longer than the charger. jusjeepn 59 #5 Posted July 25, 2011 Sounds like you are getting a 70-72 Charger! These are great rugged and durable machines that will serve you more than a lifetime if kept up. The nicest thing about these tractors (most any year) is that they are so user friendly and mechanic friendly. The tractor you are getting will be a sunstand hydro with hydraulic lift. Make sure to service this hydro regularly and it will perform flawlessly for years. The Kohler K301 is one of the most dependable engines on the planet! Plenty of hp to pull a moldboard plow as well as push a snow blower! Good luck with it and be sure to post pictures when you get it home. :woohoo: Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Seems its exactly what I had in mind-a tough tractor that hadn't been trashed and that I could tinker with and service without hanging from my ankles or standing the machine on its tail. I have a green machine and it will pull a 800lb lawn roller but it doesn't like it. Next week I'll take the trip with some wrenches/battery etc in hopes it will light off but I have a feeling I'll have to find out how to disable the hydro to winch it onto a trailer. kthack657 328 #7 Posted July 26, 2011 the hydro is easy to disengage. under the seat pan there is a valve. if ypu turn it a quarter turn you will be able to tow it up on the trailer no problem. just remember to turn the valve back when you want to ride her! keep us updated and take plenty of pictures!! :D Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
