:ROTF: hello and First of all I feel your pain, I have picked up A couple of tractors that were abused by the po and I have been lied to about them. One of them took me A couple of months to find the problems and fix it. I can't help you with your 520 because I've never worked on any of them but if you hang in there you will get all the bugs out of it and then you will see why the rest of us nuts are addicted. :woohoo:

First of all, THANKS to all you guys that have chimed in with the "helpful" replies. I have learned more about these machines in the last 2 days than anytime previous.

In reply to Mr 305 who has chosen to stick his 2 cents in ... In no way am I blaming my problems on Wheel Horse I could not hear the tractor run in the situation and I know that a crappy paint job does not make or break a piece of equipment. In my situation I took the POs word it was in good working order. It had been in a storage unit for over 5 years and all fluids were drained and the battery removed. I bought it simply BECAUSE it was a Wheel Horse.

My complaint is not with the machine but with the product support from Toro/Wheel Horse ... the website is confusing, and the listed "dealers" I was able to get a hold of could not find my parts or gave me incorrect parts and information. The largest and best stocked dealer in my area has two old guys working the counter that may have sold the very first Wheel Horse ever made, and they both have attitudes similar to yours.

Might I suggest before you "call it as you see it" you put your glasses on and get ALL the facts, or are things just that bad that you must put others down to feel a little better about yourself?

After several attempts and 2 hours I finally got some pics loaded ... I HATE dial up ! Here are a few shots of my 520 and the front mount As you can see in one the panel under the gauges is missing as is the panel where the shifter is located. That nifty toggle switch setup is how to power up the tractor, then you must turn the key to start it. I was told his cow ate the seat and I just haven't installed the new one yet.

Can someone who knows 520s or any H models with a shifter like mine tell me if the shifter is supposed to be so lose? It needs to be held constantly while operating or it just returns to "neutral". Is there an adjustment? My old Cub w/hydro had a shifter on the dash and stayed where you set it. This one does not stay. You let go and the tractor stops.

You can see the red and black paint on the exhaust. That was a wonderful smell when I first got her to run. The wires/plug hanging behind the muffler in the side view are painted black, and both were stripped back almost an inch and were shorting out. I taped them up but have no clue yet where it goes.

Believe it or not this is already a LONG way from what I brought home, but still has quite a way to go.

there is a fiction nut and washer under the seat you can see it thru the square

opening on top of the hydo pump it should be torqued around 6 ftlbs

a fiber washer under that washer will help for the motion lever.

it looks like the deck will attach mid mount,the only thing we cant see is the front pic up bar that would be connected to the decks lifting harness,im not familular with the frontmount carrier but i assume that the round bar in the front of the deck harness would attach to the carrier in the same way,that bar (if its not there and a belt would be the only things you need to belly mount her,good luck and theres lots of help and lots of guys with 520 here

Are you sure that is a 93?? Doesn't have the swept front axle, and motion control is different.

It's a pre-1991 for sure. 1991 and later had the motion control on the side of the steering wheel. The single stick on the console is a 1990 and earlier. (1988-1989 or 1990). I can't tell if it has a forward swept front axel from the picture. The deck carrier looks to me like a mod as was discussed earlier in the post.

CDLdrver........that deck does have the original mounts still on it which is good news! Do you have a hydrolic lift on the tractor. To lazy to re-read everything! Sorry!

OK I will try to respond to everyone here that has commented on the pics. First off thanks for the correction on the year, so far anything is possible on this thing second thanks for the info on tightening up the "motion control".

Now as for mounting the deck underneath ... The PO "modified" the lift for some home made plow. At first a local WH nut was afraid he cut up a grader blade, but upon further inspection we do not believe this is so. The guy gave me a lift arm and a mule he had laying around but did not have the rod for the front hanger. To mount the deck on the front carrier that bar was removed and 2 carriage bolts hold it to the carrier. Providing the PO did not alter the lift for that plow so I can not attach the lift rod all I am lacking is that front mounting rod to move the deck.

I have studied pictures on here and I believe I do NOT have the swept front axle. I remember reading a thread on here that said that was not "standard equipment" on all 520s and if I am correct someone gave the part numbers required to convert to the swept axle. At this point since I clearly do not have the 60" deck that is irrelevant.

BooVuc could you please give a little more detail regarding your claim that my carrier appears to be a mod? Are you referring to suggestions earlier that it is an older unit used on a newer tractor? If I can successfully get the deck mounted underneath I plan on offering the carrier for sale/trade and would like to know as much about it as possible, because I do not like misleading people.

What I would do regarding the deck carrier......

Post a couple pics of that carrier and if possible, any ID numbers on it to our "Attachments and Implements" section. Maybe it's my screen resolution or lack of paint but it didn't look right to me compared to the pic earlier in the post. I may be mistaken and if I am, it would make 186 days this year it's happened.

You started your Wheel Horse adventure with a great machine.

Sorry to say this machine is in rough shape. I bought a 1992 520H for 200.00

and had to spend another 500.00 - 600.00 to get it into shape.

The 520H's are known for wiring problems and I think this is because of a lack of keeping them clean and maintained. Electronics don't like moisture, or covered with grass clippings, and over time things stop working.

I am sure you will have no problem selling it and finding a better machine.

You can expect to pay 1500.00 - 3000.00 for a 520H in the shape that you are looking for.

If I had that setup, I would take the deck off the front and mount it under the tractor where it goes.
