MaineDad 87 #1 Posted July 23, 2011 Have the K301 back on the bench. Removed the flywheel and stator. Now I need to get the drive pulley off. Removed the set screws and doused it with PB blaster. Any good tips on removing it? Last time I tried to on a previous engine with jaw type pullers, I damaged the pulley. Thanks...
rmaynard 16,333 #2 Posted July 23, 2011 Have you tried plastic or wooden wedges? Had one that wouldn't budge, so I used plastic wedges that came with my Stihl chain saw. Placed them on either side of the shaft, between the block and the pulley, in opposite directions. First tapped one, then the other until it popped the pulley off. daveoman1966 3,841 #3 Posted July 24, 2011 Use this type of puller...about $30 at Sears or rent one from AutoZone. Buy some 1/4x20 bolts... 5 or 6" long. Attached Image (Click thumbnail to expand)
hm12460 53 #4 Posted July 24, 2011 Micah, I made one to remove the same pulley on my B-80 earlier this spring. Used a piece of scrap channel iron about 6" long. Drilled 2 holes just large enough to allow 1/4" all thread to pass through, also about 6" long, and used 2- 1/4 heavy nuts on the all thread to pull the pulley off of the crankshaft. Your pulley should have 1/4" NC threads in it. Hope this helps.
