71_Bronco 1,072 #1 Posted July 20, 2011 I was surfin Ebay a few days ago and found a cute extender for the side discharge decks. I was kinda puzzled by it. Can anybody please explain what it is used for? Thanks
Sparky-(Admin) 23,147 #2 Posted July 20, 2011 Not sure what its real purpose is but it might be to keep your feet farther from the blades. Or maybe it makes the clippings fly out more evenly with less clumping . Just guesses. Mike.......
can whlvr 994 #3 Posted July 21, 2011 on some of my 42 side discharges they have the extender,i think sparky is right about it being a safety thing to stop things from flying,it also adds strength to the deck as it has the crossbar that makes it rigid across the opening
Don1977 605 #4 Posted July 23, 2011 It's for safety to keep it from trowing thing out from under the deck. If the grass is heavy it won't get out from under the deck either with it installed. Removed mine 34 years ago right after I bought it. :woohoo:
can whlvr 994 #5 Posted July 24, 2011 ya mine from my 308 has been in the garage for25 years, but i think thats one reason my deck spread a little at the discharge side
CDLdrvr 0 #6 Posted July 26, 2011 I believe you guys are talking about the same item I was going to ask about. Mine sticks out maybe 6 inches or more and angles down to keep things from really flying. I had just decided to remove it before my next mow because my grass is heavy and it is constantly plugging up.
mavfreak 11 #7 Posted July 26, 2011 I had to remove mine. Instead of blowing the clippings out it would let it clump up into miniature wind rows. although it made it easier to rake up like that but I could care less and would rather it just blow the clippings to the wind
