WheelHorseSteve 56 #1 Posted July 19, 2011 Hello -- I just installed a 42" SD deck on my C-160 Auto and am trying to achieve a ~3-3.5" cutting height on my lawn. Unfortunately I am getting more like 2-2.5"... even w/ the rear wheels at full extension and lift rod in the highest hole of the lift arm. My question for the community here -- can the height at which the hydro lift stops be adjusted? It appears so... there is a metal lever with a scale of sorts that appears like it should adjust a screw... but it doesn't seem to budge (perhaps it's painted too much or too tight). How does this work exactly and can it help me get that extra ~1" of mow height? I know I can fiddle around with the hydro lift control but it isn't a consistent way to go. Please Thanks! -Steve

But you could adjust the lift arm under the tractor by adjusting the little short chain to raise your deck up a little bit. 20 and 22 in the picture Hope this will help. can whlvr 994 #3 Posted July 20, 2011 some guys put bigger wheels on the deck and adjust for level when you do

WheelHorseSteve 56 #5 Posted July 20, 2011 Great ideas, guys! (those should work well for mowing) Out of curiosity, the other part of my question - can anyone speak to the potential for setting a height stop on the hydro lift? As in, how low it goes. What exactly is that scale that seems to have height settings on it? :woohoo:
Trouty56 567 #6 Posted July 20, 2011 I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the scale is a reference point for non-floating attachments. A mower deck floats on the ground so it doesn't really help you there. But a mid-grader blade is solidly connected to the rockshaft and the scale then could be used as a measure of grading height. Maybe????? I will add that wheel horse must have designed their decks to mow the greens on the golf course. I have my deck adjusted up so far that when I raise the deck it travels about an inch at most. If I lowered it to the lowest setting.....I think I'd be cutting sod. can whlvr 994 #7 Posted July 21, 2011 to answer your question about a stop for the lift maybe you could fab a chain that goes up inside the hoodstand and bolts on to something strong, then hook the other end to the rockshaft,id be very careful though as you would have the hydro pressure pushing on the chain which could bend or break things easily
WheelHorseSteve 56 #8 Posted July 22, 2011 Thanks guys! The hydro lift is very strong... can easily lift the tractor off the ground... I'd be scared to try and fight it. That scale remains a mystery and I will try some of these great tips for mowing height. Appreciate your help! :woohoo:
refracman 167 #9 Posted July 22, 2011 You want to first make sure your deck is correctly adjusted. You can get the book on the toro site for free as a download. Use your deck model # and lookup manuals. If you find its still not high enough for you install a larger gauge wheel and readjust from there. While you at make sure where the gauge wheel mounting bar brackets bolt is OK and where the rear lift assembly attaches to the deck is in good shape.
