kthack657 328 #1 Posted July 18, 2011 So Jim and I went to jacktown today, we didnt intend on picking a tractor up, we didnt make room in the truck, didnt bring a trailer nor did we take the cap off the truck. Well as we were walking around, Jim noticed Warren from North Jersey. We walked over and sitting there was a 701 I have taken a liking to them, but was told at the wheel horse show that they are hard to find. Needless to say thank you Warren and friend (sorry I dont think I ever got your name) for selling me the round hood I wanted and for helping us load it in the truck and lifting up the cap. It just figures that going unprepared meant we had to find a tractor to take home So without further adu here are the pics!!
Horse'n Around 22 #2 Posted July 18, 2011 Congratulations on your "new" 701. Lets see, Duke has one that hes going to do up, Mike got one not too long ago and Ray just brought a nice one home from the Big Show last month. Its great to see going into the hands of folks that are going to use and or fix or restore them . I always worry on the rare occasions that I see one for sale that it will end up parted out. Nice find !!!!! John

jimt1971 237 #7 Posted July 18, 2011 Hello All, Yes I am lucky to have a wife into the hobby. Over the last two years we have been trying to decide what round hood to get. And at the Big Show this year we made up our mind that it would be a 701 because of all the one year only items. The only things it is missing is the air cleaner, double pulley for the starter gen and of course the belt guard (ouch). But over the next year of so it will be brought back to it's original condition. Since she bought this one I can now play with my motorless 552. I already know the trans will be an 8 speed (I love those things) Jim
kthack657 328 #8 Posted July 18, 2011 The 701 was a possible parts tractor according to Warren, but he just couldnt do it thank god for that. Duke, if you could keep your eye out too I would appreciate it, I know someone who has one, I just have to find out if he wants an arm or a leg for it. I know it looks good in the pics, but if you look at the thing up close you will see that it has been repainted several times , but appears to have no rust it just means I will have to strip the thing down and then give her a new paint job...but first I have to fix the seals on the engine and swap out the trans...this one wont go into first or second luckilly we have a few spares to chose from, and I am hoping to have her up and running for the show in Dover...but definately wont have her restored. Suburban 550 28 #9 Posted July 24, 2011 Good Luck with it Karen and really glad you got one. These things have seemed like they are crawling out of the wood work lately. Mine is currently on hold as of now due to the trailer incident and extremely hot weather, but hopefully I could get goin' on it soon. :D
kthack657 328 #10 Posted July 25, 2011 Ray, I saw the trailer, I hope all goes well with the insurance and the clean up, if you need anything, let us know. Jim and I are trying to get it in working order for the dover show, when we were loading it, the gas dumped into the engine and oil came out everywhere, we didnt know till today, but luckilly it didnt seem to affect the engine. we have one project ahead of it, but after that, I hope to be able to restore it. my biggest issue is finding the belt cover and the double pully that is on the generator. Hope everyone is ok and dealing with the heat well. Karen
