stevasaurus 23,292 #1 Posted July 16, 2011 I have Kelly's blessing on this. We will have a game of speed & skill at the upcoming tractor show August 5-7 at Charlotte, Michigan. The prize will be $10 worth of raffle tickets, which I will purchase, for the winner. The game is to be the fastest person to correctly put together a 5085 transmission. The differential will already be assembled...and I will leave the shift forks in place...just place the gears back in the transmission the fastest. Here is a couple of pictures and the video of how it goes together. This could be a lot of fun...and educational. click on the picture to view the video. jpmcleod 4 #2 Posted July 16, 2011 I know why you left the shifting forks in place. Those two little steel balls would be everywhere. I know, I chased them all over my shop more than one time. Looks like a fun game and I wish I could be there to watch. P.S. I will try to mail out the LAGC magazine to you next week. I have your address. Good luck with the game. stevasaurus 23,292 #3 Posted July 16, 2011 Thanks Jerry...I know you know why I think leaving the shift forks in place is a good idea...and I want to thank you for the magazine...they just mailed me the next issue. I will take videos of the game so we can share the experience. Hope it works. I have tried this a few times and I can do it, at the moment, around 30 seconds...room for improvement, but I think most people will be under a minute. Really looking forward to this...great way to get people together. :D
stevasaurus 23,292 #4 Posted July 17, 2011 You know...I thought I would get a little more reaction from this. Over 200 looks and Jerry (thank you) is the only one to say anything. I would really like to know what you guys think about this. :D
Martin 2,133 #5 Posted July 17, 2011 i think its a great idea for a game steve. ive never done one before and i was thinking of maybe pulling the 1054 apart to practice not really going to do that! would be interested in seeing the 'professionals' competing against each other though..... i dont know if im gonna be able to find the time for games, too many tractors to look at and lots of riding to do......... :woohoo:
BPjunk 184 #6 Posted July 18, 2011 Steve, Neat idea for a game BUT I don't think you would want me involved with this one ....... I put those transmissions together in my sleep ! Wild Bill in Richmond, Va. Attached Image

312Hydro 474 #9 Posted July 18, 2011 Interesting idea. I watched your vid and if I had a 3 or 4 speed I would be using it for reference. The way you put that together tells me that you've done a few! :woohoo:
Brrly1 1,146 #10 Posted July 18, 2011 My money is on Carl. I believe he is probably pretty good at this. It would be just like assembling a Kohler motor. In his sleep. :D

Martin...looking forward to it...and as far as the trans goes...if Bill can do it in his sleep...well...you and a lot of others are going to be surprised how easy and how well these transmissions are built...and I am certainly not taking anything away from Bill...he is excellent people. Bill...if this works...I'll bring this to the Big Show next year....and the blind folds. Always a pleasure mate. :D
