trettig 0 #3 Posted July 13, 2011 I know the thing screws on backwards. My question is ... how do you unscrew the thing without breaking motor parts or stuff while trying to hold the shaft stationary.
CasualObserver 3,411 #4 Posted July 13, 2011 A better image of the face of the engine would help. Is that nut connected to the pulley? You'll likely have to take the shroud off, and either brace the flywheel (not recommended unless you have a flywheel tool) , or you could take the head off, put a couple feet of rope (like soft clothesline rope) in the top of the cylinder and then put the head back on. Spin the flywheel around until the piston meets the resistance of the balled up rope in the cylinder. Now, get a wrench on the flywheel nut. Remember, it could be left hand thread, so it might be righty loosy instead of the more common lefty. Hope that helps.
WH nut 553 #5 Posted July 14, 2011 Or you could put the wrench on it and wrap it a couple times with a hammer and it will come right off. Should be left handed threads
trettig 0 #6 Posted July 14, 2011 The pulley and the nut are one piece. WH NUT - I will try the wrench and hammer (tapping) in the morning.
