KC9KAS 4,744 #1 Posted July 12, 2011 A fellow in town has a WORKHORSE 700. He got if from his wifes uncle several years ago and mowed with it for several years. He has a really big yard now and is selling the WH . I told him a long time ago I would like 1st chance at it even though I had never seen it. Today he said he has listed it in the local news paper classified ads, but saw my truck at the fire house and stopped to see me. Went to look at it and offered $100 right off the bat.. He said he needed more $$. He said he thought about $200. I thought and looked at the straight, repainted (fair rattle can job), tractor with tires that looked cracked but holding air and good looking rear discharge mower with short block engine. Motor has electric starter, and recoil with rope missing. Key switch is broken, and the fuel tank is attached to the engine, not on the tractor frame. I offered $150 and he said he thought more like $175. I pondered a bit and said OK, $175. He said well, I better talk to the wife cause it was her uncles tractor! Talk about hen-pecked ! If I have to go the $200 I will, but I may get it for $175. I got numbers from the tag, but they must have been worn some. It looks to be a 1969 WorkHorse 700, and the numbers on the engine shroud were close to what this forum say they should be, but not exact, although it is a Techy 7hp with a 2nd output shaft in front of the main engine drive shaft. The numbers looked like model: 1-3715, but might be 1-3745. The engine shroud says: M70 130003 Is this extra drive shaft to propell a snow blower or some other device, or the wrong engine completely...? The fellow said it ran, but hasn't messed with it....he really isn't mechanically inclined. What say all you WH guru's?
Wheel Horse c-100 0 #2 Posted July 13, 2011 I think you got a good deal, or going to get a good deal. Not really sure about the front shaft. I would say it probably was to power an snow blower, or some other type of attatchment. Good Luck! :woohoo:
Sparky-(Admin) 23,256 #3 Posted July 13, 2011 Its completely the wrong engine but thats not nesasarily a bad thing. The attachments would have run off a second pulley off the main crank. Mike............
clyde 5 #4 Posted July 13, 2011 :D sounds like a deal the motor is off a snowblower or rototiller the 2nd shaft is for reverse drive belt good luck :woohoo:
CasualObserver 3,411 #5 Posted July 13, 2011 sounds like a deal the motor is off a snowblower or rototiller the 2nd shaft is for reverse drive belt good luck X2 That extra shaft is a reverse drive, probably extended off of the camshaft. The engine is a transplant from something else. In my opinion that doesn't even matter. I don't think you're ever hurt at $200 for a running/driving tractor.
