Dafixer 1 #1 Posted July 9, 2011 I have located what appears to be a complete 1966 c-160 sitting in a feild. I briefly looked it over, keeping in mind that its snake country, and the only visual is a bad seat. I spoke to the the guy who owns it and he said it mowed until last year but he thinks its thrown a rod. The motor is not locked up but no compression, which may confirm the rod I guess. My question is if the engine is not destroyed can I get parts easily? He wants $200 but it does have a 50 inch deck he put on it 2 years ago which looks ok..just wandering how hard the parts are to come by for the 16?
rmaynard 16,346 #2 Posted July 9, 2011 A C-160 would have to be 1974 through 1977. The engine, if not destroyed on the inside, is a very good engine. Most of the commonly needed engine parts are available either from Kohler, after-market, or used. If it were near me, I would already have in on the trailer and headed home. I agree!! the deck is worth that buy itself! I have a 74 c160 and its a great tractor, A lot of power from a single cylinder kohler engine. But you know that you could haggle a little with the guy as there is major problems with the engine and bring it home for around $150 that would be even better!! but still not a bad deal. Kelly 1,033 #5 Posted July 9, 2011 No one is going to say they don't make a 50" deck? well WH didn't, probably a 42" that was measured on the top side including the shoot.
Shuboxlover 481 #6 Posted July 9, 2011 if he "put it on a few years ago" could be a 48" :woohoo:
Kelly 1,033 #7 Posted July 9, 2011 if he "put it on a few years ago" could be a 48" Could be but many people measure the top of the deck including the shoot, and a 48" comes in at about 54" that's why the 42" quess. but who knows for sure.

rmaynard 16,346 #11 Posted July 10, 2011 Not to hijack the thread, but as an aside, I just found a 1975 C-160 8-speed, with deck. Sign on it said $700 obo (also have a matching tiller). Don't know if it runs, and it is in fair to rough shape. The tiller was not with it, so I don't know what shape it is in. I am tempted to make an offer as long as the engine runs and the tiller is decent. I know that someone will buy the tiller from me, since I don't need it. That being the case, my net price on the C-160 would be fair, even if all I got was a decent engine and transmission.
546cowboy 302 #12 Posted July 10, 2011 If it was me that found that it would already be out in my shop. A C-160 is really scarce around here and if it has the original engine even more so. I just don't see how you could consider passing on a deal like that. Of course like most on here I do have the affliction. Actually I did go look at two yesterday and came home with the trailer empty. I could not believe the guy wanted $300 each for rusted, I mean no red left brown rusted Chargers. No decks and 5 out of 8 tires flat and rotted. One supposedly did run though.
