HorseFixer 2,013 #2 Posted July 7, 2011 I was goin to weld it back together but it is cast. How would I beable to fix this? Zeeke you weld cast Iron with Nickle rod what I do if possible is to V groove the part then Preheat the area with a torch to a dull red, arc weld it and immediately post heat with the same torch. It is best to use two people, one to preheat and post heat and the other to weld. I use Hobart Nickel 55 Welding Rod 3/32in. H500631-RDP SKU: 015243438 you can buy this rod at Rural King. I also use Carboloy Nickle Rod. After post heating let it cool S L O W L Y good luck Cheers ~Duke :D

zeeke 0 #4 Posted July 7, 2011 I live in Coolville Ohio. I also thought about getting a piece of medal and bolting it to the little bit that's still attached to the tractor and the other piece that broke off the putting the rod back on.
shorts 182 #5 Posted July 7, 2011 I,m with Duke, braze it or weld it with Ni rod, since I don't have a state of the art welding facility,I go old school, light a 20# bag of charcoal to preheat your parts dull red, weld them up, and then put them back in the fire and cover them with coals, as the fire burns out the parts will cool slowly and relieve the internal stresses caused by welding or brazing. boovuc 1,090 #6 Posted July 7, 2011 Mine was broken on the 857 when I bought it so I didn't have both pieces to even think about welding. I went to the classified section and asked for the whole rod and lever. I got a cut rod sent to me in two pieces with one piece containing the still attached lever. I hammered out the spring pins on each and replaced it. I needed a little heat and some PB Blaster on the broken lever but it came out. I can't remember off hand what size punch I used to hammer through it. Good Luck, BooVuc Mill Hall, PA
motofast 0 #7 Posted July 7, 2011 there is a type of welding rod called supermissile rod for welding dissimilar metals. been out of the welding supply biz for years, so maybe someone else is more up to date if this a viable option. i do remember farmers using it, and liking it because of it's versality.
