jbumgarner 12 #1 Posted July 7, 2011 I am new to WH and made a deal to pick up a 702 on Friday. I don't have a trailer and was hoping someone could confirm that a 702 with snow/dirt blade would fit in the bed of a standard 1/2 ton Chevy pickup. If it will not I will need to borrow a trailer and would hate to drive several hours and not be able to bring my first project tractor home. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :woohoo:
VinsRJ 723 #2 Posted July 7, 2011 Should fit, even if its a short bed... worst case, drive with the tailgate down. :woohoo:
sorekiwi 761 #3 Posted July 7, 2011 A 702 is small, it'll fit fine. Usuaally the problem with small pick-ups is if the mower deck is fitted, it may not fit between the wheel wells, but in your case you wont have to worry.
puddlejumper 67 #4 Posted July 7, 2011 It will fit, In a 6 foot bed there is even room to turn a suburban crossways in the front of the bed if the 702 didnt have a plow on it.
sscotsman 186 #5 Posted July 7, 2011 It will fit, no problem.. here is a 854 in the back of my '99 Chevy S10: Scot
BOWTIE 226 #6 Posted July 7, 2011 YOU WON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. I LOADED A 1999 314-8 AND 42" S/D DECK IN A 2001 S10 SHORTBED. I PULLED THE TRACTOR IN AND STOOD THE DECK UP BEHIND IT WITH NO SCRATCHES OR DAMAGE TO ANYTHING. YOU CAN PUT THE PLOW IN FIRST THEN PULL THE TRACTOR IN. GOOD LUCK
tunahead72 2,551 #7 Posted July 7, 2011 May I ask, how are you planning to get the tractor on to the bed of your truck? If you're planning to drive it up on ramps, please remember that your tailgate has a weight limit, which can easily be exceeded by the weight of a Wheel Horse tractor and the person driving it, especially if the cables/hinges are rusty or otherwise weakened. Feel free to ask me how my 310-8 and I know these things. I recommend that you remove the tailgate, and place the ends of the ramps directly on the bed of the truck. Secure them somehow so they don't slide around -- I drilled a few holes into my ramp ends and the bed of my old truck, and inserted some pins through them to hold them in place, but lately I've simply backed the truck into a slight incline in my yard that allows the ramps to lay basically flat. Whatever, just be careful, and make sure you secure the tractor well in the bed, it WILL want to move on you, even in gear with the brake engaged. Oh, and enjoy your new toy! Horse'n Around 22 #8 Posted July 7, 2011 As every already said, it will fit no problem. A few months ago I bought a 653 with a snow blower attached plus another snow blower and it all fit in the back of my Mazda pick up just fine. With the blade removed I am sure it will be fine. I would do like Tunahead said, and be sure to take off your tailgate when you load it, your tailgate will not like all that weight at all, they are not built for it. sscotsman 186 #9 Posted July 7, 2011 A round hood is light enough that it can easily be pushed up ramps by two people, engine not running, transmission in neutral.. When I bought my 854, I never would have believed that! but it was actually very easy..rolled it right up the ramps with no problem at all.. and this was on level ground. an 854 weighs about 400 pounds, and other round hoods will be even lighter.. For a roundhood, no need to ride it up the ramps! just get two people, one on each side (dont push from the rear, in case it gets away from you!) mr.pipes 4 #10 Posted July 7, 2011 This video shows how I loaded my ATV when I had a 1/2 ton 4x4. Dry weight is 398lbs. I think you could do it similar with a smaller tractor if you didn't have ramps. Two guys, each lifting a rear tire from the side. There are plenty if videos to show you how not to do it as well. sscotsman 186 #11 Posted July 7, 2011 This video shows how I loaded my ATV when I had a 1/2 ton 4x4. Dry weight is 398lbs. If you are 25 years old and have a good back, I suppose that could work.. but no one over the age of 40 will be trying that method! Scot

Unfortunately I am now closer to 40 than 25. But when I bring boilers in and out of basements I still feel

And Mike I did pull the spec sheet for the tractor this morning along with all the manuals for the tractor, engine and attachments. I will post pics of the tractor sometime over the weekend once I get back from the road trip to pick it up.
