dirt2turf 0 #1 Posted July 3, 2011 Hello, I'm considering buying a 9 year old wheel horse lawn tractor that has been stored in a high and dry location for the past 6 years. With the tractor sitting as long as it did, what concerns should I have if I follow through with this buy? With the installation of a new battery and spark plug the owner ( inherited from deceased father-in law ) said it started right up. Any information is appreciated. Thanks :woohoo:
MikesRJ 558 #2 Posted July 3, 2011 Not knowing what model number machine or which engine, your probably pretty safe in buying it at the right price. Plan on performing the general maintenance items, and a few extras like flushing tank and lines, rebuilding carburetor, and checking the tires for dry rot. Make sure to replace all fluids and filters BEFORE you start running it around. Change the engine oil, run it for 10 hours, then replace it again. This way you are sure of mechanically and maintenance-wise where you are starting. Kick the tires, light the fires, and take her home.
dirt2turf 0 #3 Posted July 4, 2011 Thanks for the information Mike. Much appreciated since my mechanical abilities and knowledge are limited. The model is a 12-32, admittedly just a tiny facsimile to the wheelhorse tractors discussed in this forum. Happy 4th. Greg
MikesRJ 558 #4 Posted July 4, 2011 Ah, a Rear Engine Rider. Not much can go wrong with these if the owner was good about changing oil regularly. They are pretty sturdy. A neighbor close by has been cutting his lawn with one of these for about 16 years and has nothing but good things to say about it. Good luck.
dirt2turf 0 #5 Posted July 4, 2011 Mike, This model 12-32 is not a rear engine. Will add a couple of pics. Greg Couldn't upload pics! One other question. Any idea what the original price would have been? Thanks again.
VinsRJ 723 #6 Posted July 5, 2011 :woohoo: Pretty much if the machine looks as if its been cared for then you should be alright. :D

motofast 0 #9 Posted July 6, 2011 you might consider, if no ones turned it over a couple of seconds of squirts of fogging oil.in the cylinder than let sit a little bit then roll over by hand. this will help lube for the first start up. hope that helps

I still haven"t bought it. The owner is asking $675., which I feel is too high a number everything considered. That's why I asked if you knew the ballpark original price. bigd 0 #12 Posted July 7, 2011 what comes with it for 675 that seems high to me for a mower that you have to take the owners word for that it runs.if its in mint condition maybe.

Just the mower BigD, that's why I'm not rushing into it. Even though it has a clean well maintained appearance. Hopefully the price will drop. Greg
MikesRJ 558 #14 Posted July 8, 2011 It's a 15 y/o machine. At best it's worth $500.00 and that would have to be in outstanding condition.
