More TLC for my 1973 Wheel Horse

Recommended Posts

Evil"X"

I need some advice from the masses. I inherited a 1973 Wheel Horse 12 automatic 2 years ago from my father-in-law who passed away. After several hours and a few $$$ it's running and cutting grass better than any new lawn tractor I could have bought. I see now why he was so fond of this awesome machine. Here's my dilemma; I can't seem to locate any of the special domed washers, p/n 1336, that hold the blades on the spindles of the 5-1010 mower deck. I tried a new lock washer and a couple of fender washers but they don't seem to stay tight. The spindles that still have the the domed washers remain tight. Dealers I checked said they were discontinued. Someone must have a few of them. Can anyone help?

:woohoo:

Drop the 5- in front of the number.

As C-Series14 said, SEPW still shows them.

look up parts, use Toro Consumer, parts, enter "1336" for part number, then "washer" in description. I see alot of domed washers.

When you search for "1336", it is going to find every part number with "1336" in it so yes, "5-1336" will show up but it also shows "1336"...that is what you need.

Well, SEPW boned me on the domed washers. Just like I told a few members, NO LONGER AVAILABLE! They apologized and said they'd credit my CC ASAP. I told them this was not acceptable. The order never should have gone through. I'll try again to contact Jdog. Thanks for the help anyway guys!

I bought the last three my dealer had two years ago. I think I still have two of them somewhere. I needed one when I broke a blade bolt and lost the washer... went to the dealer and the lady at the parts counter said NLA in the computer... but let me check the stockroom. When she came back out with the envelope. I said I'll take 'em all. She said... I thought so.

Let me know if Jordan can't help you out. I'll look for them.

Got to realize that when us folks look up stuff on these parts sites for others, the availability might not be updated. So when it says available, they might be NLA...

Won't know until you try and order them.

Thanks to all for trying to help! I actually had a brain storm last Sat. Called a local dealer I had forgotten about. He had 2 in stock. Even though I only needed 1 due to a broken bolt I purchased the 2 he had. Now my blades stay tight and I have a spare to boot!

Hey guys just cause you can't get them through toro don't give up hope not sure on the actual bolt size but check this out should fit a 5/8 bolt

conical washer

I almost never buy OEM fasteners unless it is really special 9 times out of 10 a manufacturer will use an off the shelf part available somewhere, When I design stuff at work I will go to great lengths to make a standard part work because a custom made part will cost well over 10 times as much unless you make a million of them.

I will admit what was standard 30 years ago may be obsolete today but a suitable replacement is usually available as in the metric washer I found... close enough :woohoo:
