privateer 1 #1 Posted June 28, 2011 Had intentions to break out the 656 mower to finish the mow job when my C-120 decided it wanted to blow the drive belt. Was not a good day for two of the old horses for me. I had to fire up the green one to finish. The techy surprisingly started right up quickly with the choke closed but when i went to open the choke she quit in both 1/2 and open choke. Closed the choke instant start as soon as i turned the key and will idle and run all day if it wanted to. I have a filter on the gas line. Sprayed in some carb cleaner, took out the two idle screws, took off the bowl to see if the two holes were clogged in the post. poked a wire brush wire through to make sure. reassembled, reset the two screws. Same problem? Starts and runs fine with choke closed. Where should I be looking next to get this thing to run under load? Thanks for looking! Rich
pfrederi 18,702 #2 Posted June 28, 2011 Have you checked the fuel flow to the carb. Should run freely out the line . Maybe your filter is partly plugged???
privateer 1 #3 Posted June 28, 2011 No I did not check the fuel filter. it's a see through and looks ok but looks aren't everything. I can tell you this much... when I reassembled the carb and went to start it, nothing. I forgot to take the vise off the fuel line. Took it off and she started right up so fuel is getting in there fairly quickly. There is plenty in the bowl too. When i push the spring knob on the bottom of the bowl the fuel pours out. shorts 182 #4 Posted June 30, 2011 you probably have a dirt/varnish buildup in the small orfices in the carb body, take out the needle mixture screws, the ones with the springs on them, use an aerosol carb cleaner with the straw and spray, soak, spray the needle holes/passages in the carb out real good and then blow them out with compressed air, if that doesn't work it,s time to remove and disassemb le the carb for a good overnight soak in carb cleaner and blowout with compressed air, then reassemble and adjust to factory settings and try again. privateer 1 #6 Posted July 1, 2011 Thanks shorts, that sounds like a plan. I had this carb off a few years ago for a full clean and rebuild. They should have made these holes bigger. :woohoo:
