Ive been twistin wrenches for the past couple weeks trying to get a couple tractors ready for the show. Last week I was able to get my RJ-58 ready, It was in pretty fair shape just rebuilt the carb, and the usual points condensor and plug. Then changed the oil. After that replaced the belt with a Gates V Power. Got the ole girl running pretty respectable.

Since last monday Ive worked on the RJ-57 that puppy has been a stinker! I found this tractor last November it was parked in a barn in michigan city, Ind and have just let her sit until now. Starting out I had to clean and pretty much rebuild the shanakey starter it was full of rust and dust after that it it had a couple flats & needed two tubes, that was the easy part! The carb was so crusty and coroaded it reminded me of crusty the clown :D Opened up the carb and "THE FLOAT" well lets just say WHAT FLOAT? It looks like termites ate it! I fianally went to a pal of mines shop and after digging thru drawers of carb parts I was able to find a float. After having the Carter N carb on and off about 5 times I got it to sputter and start.

I had purchased a set of Gates Belts and changed them out.... Then went for a ride around the block :D Whhhaaaaaa Whooooooooo "first ride on a belt drive pond" :D I had know idea :dunno: what hole to put the lever in! :D I just played with it till I figured it out! After all real men dont need instructions! It was sputtering and spitting and for awhile there I thought I had it whipped! Finally it Died!

I worked on it all weekend and finally found the problem! :WRS: The coil wire was fryed at the coil. I had another coil off of another K-90 and was able to canabilize it tonight and found that the wire wasn't in much better shape. Are these coils suppose to feel kinda soft? I was able to trim back this soft rubber and get to a prong on the coil and repair it. I wrapped the coilwire to the coil with some self mending rubber tape. I reassembled the flywheel changed points and condensor and finally got her to pop off. She runs pretty good now.

Will work on it this week, by the weekend should have it in shape!

So who else is going to the show and what are you taking!

Cheers Duke

An RJ 35 is an interesting ride even when they run proper! I remember my first trip on ours. Good Lord I thought I was gonna die! Very interesting to say the least. Yours looks incredible if that is original paint. Interesting though, the black wheels, late decal and open belt guard?

I'm still trying to figure out what I'm taking. No clue yet. Any requests? LOL
