Indy4570 0 #1 Posted June 28, 2011 So I am lookin for some hay equipment and I come across this ad on craigslist for a wheel horse tractor and blade for $200. I know my neighbor needs a tractor so i reply and the guy calls me back and I decide to go 110 miles to go look at it. (read "buy it" ) I have this problem though. This is a very nice commando 8 with wheel horse rubber and I can't bear to part with it...what do I tell the neighbor???? I also bought a crappy little 12 HP MTD for $150 so I think I am gonna let him have it for that if he wants it. I just can't seem to get around the idea of sellin the horse. Is that wrong of me??? Docwheelhorse 2,740 #2 Posted June 28, 2011 As long as you didn't tell the guy he had a Wheel Horse or a Commando coming then I would keep it (A Commando 8 was my first tractor, Is my favorite tractoir, And did you know that at the 2012 WHCC show it will be the FEATURED tractor) you almost HAVE TO keep it! 312Hydro 474 #3 Posted June 28, 2011 Sorry to say but you have contracted "No way it's mine and you cant' have it Wheel Horse-itis". Symptoms include : 1) Driving long distances to buy a for the neighbor 2)Keeping a stable of "crappy tractors" to give to neighbors who want you to find them a 3) Explaining that the "new" you suddenly acquired is for "another friend they don't know" BTW, If I haven't said this. :D
Ken B 3,189 #4 Posted June 28, 2011 Just tell him it is going to suit your needs more than it will his. Maybe he needs more horsepower? C'mon, you can think of something! :woohoo:
Duff 206 #5 Posted June 28, 2011 I agree completely with the guys above. Find any excuse you can and keep that pony! ~Duff :woohoo:
tunahead72 2,551 #6 Posted June 28, 2011 I just can't seem to get around the idea of sellin the horse. Is that wrong of me??? Of course it is! Tell you what, just give ME that Commando, I won't tell anybody, and it'll make you feel better. I'll even wait patiently here in Pennsylvania for you to deliver it to me -- you know, for free? Those Commandos are highly overrated -- that MTD, now THAT'S a tractor! Seriously, :D
stevasaurus 23,292 #8 Posted June 28, 2011 The Commando is the feature tractor at next years show...you have to fix it up and take it. :woohoo:
Indy4570 0 #9 Posted June 28, 2011 Ok guys, I will keep it but I am counting on you fellas to help me keep it running! I just ran it out of gas, it mows Ok so so. I think maybe the blades are dull. It has a throttle issue as in it don't move! I know it is a twist lock but only the knob is turning. The lighter is in it but no knob on it either. It has an aftermarket hot rod steering wheel on it, I can live with that.
farmer 1,078 #10 Posted June 28, 2011 Indy 4570, So you've told a little white lie, but I think you'll find most fans would say; it had to be done. I've only driven my Commando 8 a few times..but I got a feeling its going to be my favourite.

SAM58 30 #12 Posted June 29, 2011 Hello & I actually bought one with with a bad transmission for parts about 15 years ago. Restored the deck, and used it on the old Raider 12 I had at the time. Just parted it out completely last fall. I do have a steering wheel and a few other parts somewhere...
can whlvr 994 #13 Posted June 29, 2011 for me it would depend on how good of a freind your neighbour is,if hes a good freind then it would be hard for me to say he cant have it,but thats just me,if hes just a guy that lives next door and you didnt mention anything about it then you got yourself a new horse, get him another one that comes up,if you can let it go :woohoo:
shorts 182 #14 Posted June 30, 2011 :ROTF: Your'e addicted Don't tell the neighbor anything, only answer the questions that he asks, It's the latest addition to your collection, not for sale! If he was really serious about a he would have spotted it and taken the roadtrip without you. It's all my fault that the brother in law bought a new commercial mower because I won't sell my "72" TORO 60'' , some old iron just isn't for sale.
Indy4570 0 #15 Posted July 4, 2011 I mowed and mowed with it and even tried to back it up a hill I went down but it just spun the tires. I thought it might have to live out it's days down in the hollow but i did manage to get it out by another trail. Under the seat I find that it is filled with wheel weights. I am thinking of putting chains on it for traction. Anybody know if a sickle mower attachment was made for this model?
