Rjenson 2 #1 Posted June 22, 2011 Hey everyone.. newbie here. I picked up a couple new horses the other day and I'm a bit unsure of the correct year and model. Its missing a few parts and the motor has a cracked block, but I would like to bring her back to life. It looks like someone has drilled through the hood to mount the gas tank back on and am unsure if the foot pegs belong to this model. Any and all information you guys can give me would be helpfull and very appreciated.
Kelly 1,028 #2 Posted June 22, 2011 looks like a 401, and the foot rest are not correct for the tractor, but I see them used on many models.
Rjenson 2 #3 Posted June 22, 2011 They are the same ones that are on my 704. Should they be the longer flat ones?
smoreau 658 #4 Posted June 22, 2011 yep thats a 401 and it all looks correct, even the foot rests, and hood

Rjenson 2 #6 Posted June 22, 2011 Really?? Ok well now I know what I'm working with. The good news is both the choke and throttle cables move freely..I've heard they can be tough to find.

Rjenson 2 #8 Posted June 22, 2011 Hood plugs?? Are you saying those bolts it the hood are supposed to be there?
wallfish 15,935 #9 Posted June 22, 2011 The big hole right below the switch. The originals always seem to be missing. You can see them here. These are 551 so they have the key switch installed into them but the same plug for the hole http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=
Rjenson 2 #10 Posted June 22, 2011 :hide: I'm an idiot.. well I picked this baby up from glen petit, a vender here on redsquare that sells the knobs and flags and I believe he said he might be able to make one.. I went to him to get a flag for a gift for my brother in law. Ended up leaving with this baby and an 875.. thanks glen

Rjenson 2 #12 Posted June 22, 2011 So just to clarify.. this is a suburban 401 and those are the right foot pegs?
wallfish 15,935 #13 Posted June 22, 2011 That is 1961 401 but the foot rests are NOT correct for that tractor. Go back to the link posted for the hood plugs on 551s and you can see what the correct foot rests look like
