p38js 428 #1 Posted June 21, 2011 I just purchased my first wheel horse a 1975 C-120 model number 1-0375 with a tecumsch HH120-120180E 12horse power engine. I paid $400.00 the tractor is in good shape no rust no dents and no oil leaks. I took the 42inch deck off and found the idler pulley worn out. Started to look for parts and the locale toro shop told me it is competely worn out and that I have a old square "d" spindle set-up. So he is trying to sell me a newer style deck for $450.00. Did I go wrong with this purchase
shootinok 15 #2 Posted June 21, 2011 Nahhh - You didn't do too bad at all. Even without the deck that tractor is worth $400 Stick around here and do some checking - someone will have those spindles (or tell you where to find them) and Welcome! :hide:
JimD 3,347 #3 Posted June 21, 2011 Parts for your deck are still available. The double D bearings can be found on ebay for around 25 bucks plus shipping on a regular basis, and I'm sure there are other sources as well. Sound like a good buy to me. Best of luck with it. :hide:

SNYFIX 13 #12 Posted June 22, 2011 Double "D" bearings ?? Are you sure you don't have a 36 inch deck ?? If the previous poster is talking about those aftermarket integral bearings you'll and everybody will want to be aware they're made in China and Toro quickly stopped carrying them when they found that they easily broke so buyer beware. Parts for the double "D" 42 inch decks will be expensive at best thru Toro. Yes, bearings are easily obtainable but the shafts ?? Price out those cast iron "DD" pulleys !!! HankB 16 #17 Posted June 23, 2011 ... found the idler pulley worn out. Started to look for parts and the locale toro shop told me it is competely worn out and that I have a old square "d" spindle set-up. So, is it the idler (tensioner?) or spindle that is worn out? If it is the tensioner, I would be very surprised if you could not find something like it at an industrial supply house like McMaster Carr or Grainger (or any well stocked mower supply house.) (Checking McMaster Car and not seeing anything. ) Anyway, you need to clarify which part is bad. If it is like my 42" rear discharge deck, that thing is a beast and I would certainly explore all options to repair rather than replace.
