rydogg 186 #1 Posted June 21, 2011 I was looking for a motor for my 702 project and stumbled across these at my friends house the yellow one is a k161s which I assume is from a Cub Original, but I am not sure what the other motor is since the tag is missing and I can't see the stamp since there is a PTO pulley in the way. I am wondering what the 7hp kohler looks like in a 702...what is the oil fill spout type?? As you can see the yellow motor only has an oil fill at the plug near the oil pan drain plug and the other has a tube type I looked at my 701 and it has the screw in style also they both have the fuel pump block off plate so can I just remove the plate and install a fuel pump or are these going to be missing the lobe that runs the pump. Can I replace the flywheel with one from my other motors so I can use the correct starter generator. If anyone can tell what the motor on the left is let me know, I know it is a starter/generator type motor and I am guessing 7hp. If I find out that it will work one of these S/G motors may need to donate a flywheel and pulley unless I can find one around here or if someone has one they would like to part with. I would use the blue 7hp in the 702 but I am hoping to find another 701 for that motor since it has the double pulley starter setup.
shorts 182 #2 Posted June 23, 2011 you're going to have to do some detective work, look for and compare casting numbers on the blocks and internal parts, you may have ti remove the head and measure the bore and stroke to properly identify the engines. as far as the lobe on the cam for the fuel pump, I'd be suprised if their were 2 different cams used, pull the cover and look inside for the machined ecentric on the cam. as far as dipstick and drainplug locations go, their is no law that says that you can't drill and tap holes where you need to, measure carefully to find the proper centerpoint for the hole and then drill and tap to match your pattern/mockup engine.
