Moment of silence

I picked up a 416-8 with an onan twin a few years ago in poor shape, but it ran. I was in the process of getting to going tonight to use the tank sprayer I mounted on the back when the engine took a crap. I robbed the fuel pump a few weeks ago for the

:hide: such a sad day.but i believe in resurrection so lets get the ball rolling.Iworked on a kawasuckie last year that did the same thing after a long bout of cussing and much head scratching.it turned out to be a carb problem.you do have one symptom that i did'nt the firing about every tenth time and picking up speed that suggests timing to me or a major vacuum leak.bring it back im curious now.

I may be missing something here, and I'm certainly no expert, but when I read your post, the first thing I thought was ... So, other than the fact that your engine's not running right now, why exactly are you calling it dead? :hide:

I'm with save_old_iron and bigd, this old engine may still have some life in it, can't hurt to try a few things. I'd start with the fundamentals, look for obvious stuff like a closed fuel shutoff valve and bad electrical connections, check the timing and look for vacuum leaks like bigd suggested, let everybody here know what you find, and take it from there.

Just my 2 cents worth, others will have more specific ideas, hope you can get it running again! :WRS:

Sounds like fuel or timing to me, my old trick to finding out if it's a carb problem is if I can run it on either or not (just don't run it too long or you will scrub the cylinder walls of oil) back on the farm we used to put gasoline in a spray bottle and spray it in the carb while trying to start them. Heck I've even used WD-40 to run an engine. :hide:

I am with the other guys. Its my opinion that if there isn't a rod sticking out the side or something similar then the motor is not dead. Keep looking into it she will live again.

you said it has 90 psi comp, check for spark new sparkplugs and get out the small pump oilcan full of fresh gas and revive the old horse. It seems from reading here that the onan carbs are sometimes a little finicky but not impossible to work with.
