jdog_kustoms 82 #1 Posted June 18, 2011 i was wondering how to test the coil or solid state igniton on this motor my tractor wont idle and it boggs down and blows black smoke when you let the clutch out or tuen the deck on i have cleaned the carb tryied another one and same thing i was runnign great wife mowed with it and then we parked it and it runs like crap ever since when you get it running it will rn all day and sound great at half throttle or above but under half it just shuts off and when you give motor a lot it loads up and spits and sputters Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Save Old Iron 1,571 #2 Posted June 19, 2011 you could start by measuring the approximate secondary spark voltage by one of these adjustable ignition testers. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B0...81&s=automotive some of the Techy motors have a spark advance feature in the form of different height spark module trigger "pins" on the flywheel. If one of the pins is missing or not seated correctly, spark timing and engine performance will be degraded at all speeds. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
