15 amp Kohler K181 from a C81

My brother has a K181 off of a 1978 C81 Wheel Horse that is froma 15 amp electrical system.

He is placing it on a 1974 B-80 which has a 10 amp electric system.

He indicates the motor runs great and starts fine on the sytem but when the PTO is engaged for the mower deck the motor looses power after it warms up.

He does not think is is a motor (valve, compression, rings, etc problem) but possibly an eletrical ignition issue.

Any clues on what might cause this type of power loss? Is it posible the coil or rectifier could be an issue when the motor is warmed up?

The B-80 engine should have had a 15 amp stator too, so that shouldn't be an issue.

The ignition power technically comes from the battery anyhow - so even if the alternator isn't charging at all (and the battery is fully charged) the engine should run fine...... at least for a while.

Is he actually trying to operate an attachment, or just engaging the PTO lever? If he is attempting to power an attachment, maybe something is wrong with the attachment itself.

Personally, I would unhook the power feed wire to the ignition coil and connect a jumper wire from the + post on the coil to the + post on the battery. If it runs correctly, it's a wiring issue. If it still acts up, it's possibly in the engine. (or the coil/points/condenser)

We found out that it was a setting on the governor that was causing the lack of power!

The mower deck pulleys. bearings and the PTO bearings and Mule drive pulleys were all ok.

Thanks for all the ideas on a cause!
