Steering On My 953

Recommended Posts

oldnugly

I have a 953 and a question about the steering. There's about an eighth of a turn in the steering wheel before it snugs up. The drag link rod starts to move as soon as the steering wheel starts. but the ball joint doesn't snug up until the drag link rod has moved about a quarter inch. Is that too much slop in the steering? Thanks-Tom

I'm not a 953 expert but that sounds like a lot of movement to me. There's nothing more anoying than sloppy steering. I'd look into it. :hide:

If you have an early 1963 953, then you should have a nice Ross aluminum sealed steering box and you can tighten up the slop in that type. If you have a later production 953, it has the fan gear type and I don't think you can adjust them much if any. Hammerhead :hide:

Check for a loose nut, behind the wheel.
