bo dawg 517 #1 Posted June 11, 2011 Changing the oil and filter in the 82 C-175 trans/rear. Is there any other drain plug than the one on the very bottom of case? Chart shows 5 qts empty but I dont think I drained quite that much. Although the rear is a lot smaller than my C-161 but both holds 5 qts. My other tractors I've had all had 2 drain plugs. stoneman 10 #2 Posted June 11, 2011 I'm thinking that you need to run it enough to get the new filter filled up. That's close to 1/2 a quart, and maybe that'l put where you need to be. I doubt that there's another drain plug, but do you have any hydro lines that may have fluid in them? :hide:
bo dawg 517 #3 Posted June 11, 2011 I haven't tryed filling it up yet, drained it out last night but didn't get 5 qts out. Oh well I'm going to put the new filter on and filler up and see what happens. :hide:
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #4 Posted June 11, 2011 Total system capacity is always greater than routine change. All of the oil does not drain completely out of the pump/motor unit, lift control valve/lines/cylinder, etc. so less than five quarts in the drain pan isn't abnormal. If you don't already know how much of a PITA these are to refill because they airlock, either pump the oil in through a hose smaller than the dipstick tube, or remove one (or both) of the fender support mounting bolts on top of the transaxle. Thanks TT, thats what I was betting on. You're so right about the air thing.
