jdog_kustoms 82 #2 Posted June 8, 2011 that is a 78 d 160 with a onan 16 hp engine origonally you will have to model number off engine to see what that is and check the rear they are none to crake on the bottom and people use jb weld and silicon as a temporary fix i have had 4 d series and regrete getting rid of them but were a little to big for me also any 48 inch deck will fit but you need the front mule for it and have to change 3 parts on the carage i have done this numerous times

.5racer 14 #4 Posted June 10, 2011 My offer would be 4 to 500 ,,,,,lots of work !!!!!!! But first look at the level of the oil and see if there is water , trany too !!!!!!might even go as low as 300 . :hide:
dgoyette 12 #5 Posted June 10, 2011 I agree with .5racer $400 is fair, $500 is max. And also to check the rearend for cracks / repairs right around the drain plug.
Ken B 3,189 #6 Posted June 10, 2011 I'd start my offer quite a bit lower than the 4 or 500 mark. It has been left outside which tells me either it died where it sits or they don't care much about it.
Kelly 1,033 #7 Posted June 10, 2011 I agree with Ken I'd say lower around $200-250 tops not running no idea on trans, no 3 point, if you can hear it run and drive it 20 feet then I might pay a bit more, I allways ask what is the least you will take when buying something, times they are nuts with a high price, and I say thank you and walk, other times I can't get my wallet out fast enough to pay them with the low price they are asking. coldone 35 #8 Posted June 10, 2011 I look at at it like this. How long have I been looking for this one? Do I have the money? Do I want to put the time and energy into getting it running? What do i want it for? If its something I have been hunting for and I dont mind fixing it and that model doesnt come up often in my area, I tend to spend more money on it. If its something I can live without or they are sold very often I tend to wait for a better deal. I have been lucky kinda. All 4 GTs I have bought were non runners. I paid $420 for a D160 with 44 inch deck. The PO had replaced the ignition, coil, points, and wires and could not get it to run. When I got it home and started checking he had put in a Magneto igniton switch instead of a battery ignition. Changed it out and the tractor runs and mows. It needs more work but its all TLC work. I paid $250 for a snapper 1650a non running. Got it home, cleaned and adjusted the points and she runs. It still needs some TLC. Its all in what you are willing to spend and gamble on. Just look it over real good for any obvious big problems. Spin the engine by hand and check the hydro for leaks.
