boovuc 1,090 #1 Posted June 6, 2011 Guys, I have a tiller coming but the one thing it does not have is the rockshaft lift arm under the seat. I know others have said they have their's hooked direct and other than it being a bear to lift, it's operational. Other than the rockshaft..........(I have the spring and arm), has anyone here come up with any other ways to "assist" in lifting a tiller? This is a manual lift that will most likely will go on my C-175! Thanks, BooVuc Mill Hall, PA
daveoman1966 3,835 #2 Posted June 6, 2011 you could fashion and mount some sort of handle onto the top center of the tiller. Mount it in such a way that you could reach it with your right hand, while still being able to reach the implement lift handle with your left hand. You'd have to stop the tractor, of course, to lift the tiller, but you would have the strength of both arms to lift it up, instead of just your left arm. This wouldn't work so good if you have a high-back seat...unless you're a real knuckle-dragger. Mat'l: two 3/8 eye bolts about 4" long and 4 jam nuts to secure them to the top center of the tiller, about the width of your hand. Find a 3/4" OD pipe length to fit between the mounted upright eyebolts, then run a 1/2" bolt thru that pipe securing it to the eyebolts. Presto...... lift assist handle. IthacaJeff 151 #3 Posted June 6, 2011 Hi BooVuc; I don't have the rockshaft under my seat and I will say that it took a while of fussing around to get the lift cable the right length to (1) lift the tiller high enough to clear the ground, (2), to permit the tiller to drop sufficiently, and (3) to not have the cable clamps jam up against the seat support or cable lift tube that runs under the seat. But, I got it to work. I added a heavy spring that runs from a small bracket I made on top of the left side axle attach-a-matic (added the bracket to the bolts coming through the hold down bar) to the tiller. On the tiller I attached the spring on the same mounting plate the cable lift attaches to, using a bolt. It would have been more effective to run the spring to a spot lower on the tiller, where it is supposed to go. You may want to add another spring as well. I also ran a chain from a hole in the left side seat support to the tiller to reduce the amount of tiller drop. My 310-8 does not have a lift limiting mechanism on the lift handle (these were only on the 312s and up, I think), so I needed a way to limit the depth of the tiller. boovuc 1,090 #4 Posted June 7, 2011 PM sent to Jeff. Thanks for the reply and ideas. Hi Dave. After two lower back surgeries over the past 20 years, twisting backwards and lifting would probably not be in my best interest. It's one of the main reasons I'm looking for the rockshaft. If I ever blow another disk, it won't be pretty! Thanks, BooVuc Mill Hall, Pa
