Martin 2,133 #1 Posted June 4, 2011 seeing as the 1054s been getting all the attention these days, i thought id spend some time with the other horse. the 875 hasnt been getting much love lately, i used it to mow recently and the pto to deck belt shredded and it was back to the push mower for a few weeks until i got around to getting a belt. (i got by with a 22 inch push mower just fine until my addiction took a hold ) anyway, got a belt and thought id spend some time this morning mowing. the engines a little smoky when working hard, the deck still has some small issues and the i noticed the spindles are getting a little noisy, but it was fun getting some time on the old 875. man, i just love the turning circle on this thing compared to the 1054. heres two of when the work was done....... Martin 2,133 #7 Posted June 5, 2011 thanks for the comments guys, the 1054 is turning out nice. the paint just came to life when i wheeled it out of the garage into the sun yesterday. couldnt be happier with my choice of ppg case red ms45 powder. although its far from a show quality job. sure the paint looks deep and shiny in the pics, courtesy of a good build of powdercoat, but the tractor had a lot of surface rust and this was done to make it last a little longer and get it looking better. my main aim with this rebuild was to get all the loose stuff tightened up, give it a good clean and make it more enjoyable to use. i want to use it, it will get looked after and kept clean, but i want to use it for what it was made for and if it gets dirty or my boy scratches it im not going to have a heart attack over it. the wife wants to use a tractor for the garden work and she even found a cart for towing around. shes trying to convince me not to use the 1054 and instead use the 875 because its 'looking too good to get dirty'. but then mentions i should do a real nice build on the 875. im reluctant to touch the 875 as i think keeping its 'character' is a good thing. i guess that means getting another one to do a real nice build on the whole bolt thing has been around for me ever since i started messing with cars back in the 80s. i like the plated bolt look against the paint, but for me its more a functional thing. i just think that if your going to all the trouble of taking it apart, whatever it is, and cleaning and painting it nice, then take the effort to use clean fasteners. the 1054 is not being rebuild with the intention of having everything 'original'. i like to take notice of how things were done when new but its all about how i want it to look over what is 'correct'. im not really sure which bolts are supposed to be painted and which arent .... hopefully the 1054 is not that far off being finished. starting to get impatient. i guess when i look back, may 1st was when i tore it down, so its just a little more than a month at the moment. really looking forward to getting some seat time on the 1054 though, its such a different ride than the 875. stevasaurus 23,292 #10 Posted June 5, 2011 Martin...if you show up with a horse, you get in free, and you can ride your horse from the parking area. Drive it back out when you leave. Very easy. No registration. Hope it works out.
