Timing blades on gear driven deck

Recommended Posts

farm80!

I have a commando 8 with a 2 blade rear discharge mower deck. I hit a rock and now timing is off and blades hit each other. I can't figure out how to retime the blades. Do you just remove a blade and tighten it backup in a different position? Should they be put back perpendicular to each other. Appreciate any help you can offer. FYI I am a new member and first time poster. Thanks in advance.

well it sounds like you may have sheard a key or broke teeth, take the deck off, and take the gear covers off to see if any teeth are broken first, the blades only fit on one way something is not right and needs to be fixed, I'm just starting to learn about the old gear drive decks.

I remember hitting a stump with 36''deck on a 702 and having the blades crash, I dont remember the specifics on the keys and gears but i do rember the below deck casting being cracked and in need of help from the local weld shop, either a braze job or welded with Ni rod. sorry that I'm fuzzy on all of the details but it's been 40+ years and several miles ago :hide:

The keys were the wink link. :hide: even had a service bulletin about replacing them with stronger ones. Kelly's right. something is broke and needs to be fixed. I have seen a lot of broken deck plates also.
